Nature in and around Sydney

Fauna

The australian fauna is unique. Over 50 million years marsupials, oviparous mammals and many other exceptional animals were breeding without disturbance. Because of the isolation they didn't have natural enemies, until the 18th century when european settlers have imported their animals. Within a few years the habitat of the native animals have been shortened. For example the continuing urban sprawl particularly destroys the habitat of the koalas.
