Macquarie Lighthouse

Woollahra, Vaucluse

Web: Macquarie Lighthouse

Macquarie Lighthouse is the oldest and longest operating lighthouse in Australia. At this place since 1791 a light was installed and since 1818 the first lighthouse was built here.

Francis Greenway, the famous architect who came as a convict to Australia constructed the lighthouse. During construction inferior building material was used. Over the years the walls were crumbling.

1883 the second light house was completed. James Barnet's construction is a reproduction of the original.
