Farm Cottage - National Trust
James Ruse was the first former convict, who was donated a 12 ha
piece of land by Governor Phillips as gratification for his successful
work in agriculture. 1793 Ruse sold the land to Doctor John Harris
who built the cottage in 1834. The still original cottage was refurbished,
e.g. with a Keightley clock from the 1820s, a red-cedar sideboard
from the 1880s and an escritoire from 1835. A permanent exhibition
shows James Ruses' agricultural experiments and farming during the
early colonial days.
